It is GPFL ’s objective to grow more fibre on less land through improved nutrition control. In this respect, GPFL monitors our established plantations for signs of nutrition deficiency, to gain an understanding of any deficient elements that may be influencing the growth of the trees and to plan corrective fertilisation.

Currently fertilisation will occur only when the predicted benefits to the plantation outweigh the associated cost.  Continual research is being conducted to improve our understanding and knowledge.

Soil Analysis

A soils analysis is conducted as part of the Site Assessment, to provide a diagnosis of soil chemical constraints to plant growth due to historic land use and to help predict the composite for the base fertiliser treatment, to ensure  a viable investment.

Foliar Sampling

Foliar sampling is conducted at plantation age 2,3,4 & 6 by an approved and registered contractor to monitor the nutrient content of the trees and gauge a trend in response to silvicultural treatments such as fertilising and weed control.
