It is fundamental that the site be suitable for the species to be planted, to gain maximum yield at harvest.

GPFL research  title information, planning schemes, cultural heritage, catchment management and flora and fauna as well as detailed information about land-systems, morphology etc. Specific details of the property including distances, climate, fire protection, and harvesting issues will also be recorded on initial site assessment.

If the property is currently farm land, a soil survey will be conducted.  A soil survey shall be carried out by an experienced person to distinguish the various soil profiles with in the property.  This will also help identify  the Effective Rooting Depth (ERD) of the particular site and to determine the moisture retention content for the particular soil type.
