Oji Paper Company was established over 120 years ago and is now one of the largest pulp and paper companies in the world. The company makes nearly six million tonnes of paper a year in a wide variety of products including newsprint, printing and writing papers, paperboard, coated boxboard, wrapping papers and disposable nappies.
Oji has 17 paper mills and 23 manufacturing plants in Japan. Overseas interests include mills in New Zealand and Canada and plantation forests in protection, particularly to "fibre recycling", that is, the effective use and sustainable development of forest resources. The company has six research facilities in Japan
conducting basic research in paper and pulp and the development of new materials and products for rapidly evolving markets. Another area of research is the study of trees showing promise for the manufacture of commercial papers.
Oji employs 13,200 people and has annual sales of more than $A 20 billion.
